Represented by the University of Algarve and funded by the EU through the ENI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme, the focus of iHERITAGE project in Portugal is to promote the Mediterranean Diet and its importance for the cultural identity of the Mediterranean.

It is with great pleasure that iHERITAGE Portugal will present the brochures created with Centro de Ciência Viva de Tavira and CRESC Algarve. A research partnership between the iHeritage Portugal project and Centro de Ciência Viva de Tavira (Science Centre of Tavira) supported the creation of 9 virtual tours, simultaneously serving as educational resources.

In October, iHERITAGE Portugal will showcase the digital brochures created within the project iHERITAGE – ICT Mediterranean platform for UNESCO cultural heritage, supported by the EU through the ENI CBC Med Programme in the Algarve. The event will happen in Tavira and intends to present the result of synergies created between iHERITAGE Portugal, Centro de Ciência Viva de Tavira and CRESC Algarve 2020.

Portugal is currently participating in the iHERITAGE project, aiming to promote and enhance the Mediterranean UNESCO cultural heritage through innovative experiences by creating cross-border living labs for research and innovation. Represented by the University of Algarve, the Portuguese team focuses on promoting the Mediterranean Diet and its importance for the cultural identity of the Mediterranean. For Portugal, this means focusing more specifically on the country’s geographic case study: Tavira. This choice was based on Tavira being a region of small demographic and territorial dimensions, where relations of proximity, productive activities and ancestral cultural expressions are proven alive and preserved.

Considering the Portuguese partner case study, and as part of the iHERITAGE project, Universidade do Algarve established a partnership with Centro de Ciência Viva de Tavira with the primary goal of showcasing the Mediterranean Diet through the lens of augmented reality. For this and promoted by Centro Ciência Viva de Tavira, the University of Algarve, as a partner, formed a partnership with the DiMEd project, funded by CRESC ALGARVE 2020, that produced digital educational resources covering the Mediterranean Diet, including support materials for the teacher/trainer and different resources to application in classroom/session context and autonomous work.

In this sense, the work of DIMED aims to produce and develop innovative digital educational resources based on the different dimensions of the Mediterranean Diet. Through support in a virtual environment, it is then intended to improve and innovate the contents of the training offered for teaching and vocational training. In doing so, the objective is to contribute to the promotion of school success and adaptation to the region’s sectoral needs and transformations.

Most recently, to mark these partnerships, iHERITAGE Portugal created a brochure that compiled all the information regarding the cultural and technical exchange while providing examples of Mediterranean Diet cultural elements with QR Codes that can be read through the application created within the project, the iHeritage Mediterranean Diet app. Download and try it out today on IOS and Android.

Very soon, a public event will be announced to promote the virtual content of the Mediterranean Diet available.
